A restaurant manager helped tip off Clearwater police to a suspected drunk driver who pulled into a Wendy’s drive-thru Sunday night with his 4-year-old son in the back seat.

Police say David Timothy Higgins, 26, of Largo, pulled into the Wendy’s drive-thru at 900 S. Missouri Ave. around 10:30 p.m. — shortly after the Super Bowl ended — when the manager noticed he was intoxicated and had a child in the back seat.

She asked him to pull over while she waited for his food to cook, but instead she called police.

Responding officers detected a strong alcohol odor, and he failed several sobriety tests, police say.

Higgins was charged with DUI and child neglect, police say.

Higgins also has a previous DUI arrest, by St. Petersburg police in June 2012, jail records show.
