A Palm Harbor woman faces a felony battery charge after police say she assaulted a Clearwater paramedic early this morning after she crashed her car into a power pole.

Police say Ashley Cochran, 21, was driving on North Fort Harrison Avenue and Mohawk Street just before midnight when she struck several street signs and ran into a power pole, resulting in a small power outage.

After detecting alcohol on her breath, police say Cochran consented to a blood draw at the scene. But she became angry and grabbed a firefighter-paramedic by the arm and began to yell and swing her arms at him.

Cochran was subdued and taken into custody, police say. She remains in Pinellas County Jail with bail set at $5,000.

Cochran may face a DUI charge, pending the results of blood tests, police say.
