Police: Sarasota man jailed after stabbing over fishing spot

Published:

A fight over a fishing spot last weekend turned into a stabbing that left one man injured and another man charged in the attack in Sarasota.

About 9 p.m. Saturday, Sarasota police responded to the 1400 block of Siesta Drive for a report of a stabbing. Officers found the victim was lying at the base of the bridge master’s building in the middle of the Siesta Bridge.

The victim said he had an argument with David Christner, 58, about where he had parked his vehicle while he was fishing, police said. The argument turned into a fight with both men hitting each other.

Christner then grabbed an ice pick-type weapon and stabbed the victim twice, according to police.

The victim was taken to Blake Medical Center in Bradenton via Bayflight for treatment, police said.

Christner, of 2822 Olympic St., Sarasota, was arrested Sunday and charged with felony aggravated battery with a deadly weapon. He is being held without bond in the county jail.
