A Pinellas Park man faces several charges, including aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, after police say he shot at an officer and a police dog during a pursuit on Thursday night.

According to police, an officer responded around to a disturbance call around 10 p.m. in the 9100 block of 54th Way North after a report that a man was grabbing and pushing a woman.

The woman told police the suspect, 30-year-old Jason Michael Lopez, has beaten her, and that she was pregnant with his child.

As officers approached Lopez in the 5500 block of 92nd Place North, police say Lopez fled to the back yard of a nearby residence.

A K9 unit found Lopez in the backyard of 5801 91st Ave. N., but police say Lopez refused orders to surrender and the K9 was send to apprehend him.

Lopez fired a handgun at the dog and its handler, missing both, before throwing the gun into another yard, police say.

The K9 then subdued Lopez, who suffered serious injuries including several dog bites, police say.

Lopez was treated at a local hospital and released, police say.

Lopez faces several charges, including aggravated assault on a law enforcement officer, aggravated battery on a pregnant female, and resisting arrest with violence.
