TAMPA - Tampa police investigated a suspicious item found Tuesday night at Steinbrenner Field.
The department's bomb squad was called to the baseball stadium, located at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and North Dale Mabry Highway.
The item was about 8 by 6 inches and resembled a battery, police Lt. Richard O'Connor said. Officers could see circuitry in the item, he said.
It was found about 600 to 800 feet inside the north side of ballpark's property, O'Conner said
It wasn't known if the device was active.
Steinbrenner Field is spring training home for the New York Yankees and the regular-season stadium for the Yankees' minor-league affiliate in the Florida State League.
