Police: Gulfport robber bound victim with duct tape

A Gulfport man who robbed and tied up an elderly man was arrested in Pasco County on Friday night, the Gulfport Police Department said.

Nathan Rewerts, 24, is being held in the Pasco County Jail as he awaits extradition to Pinellas County, the police department said.

Rewerts followed the elderly man to his home in the 6000 block of Gulfport Boulevard South on Friday night. Rewerts and the victim know each other, police said.

When Rewerts entered the man’s home, he bound the elderly man with duct tape, police said.

Rewerts took the victim’s wallet and the keys to the man’s 2013 Chevrolet Camaro, police said.

After several hours, the elderly man was able to chew through the duct tape and call 911. The victim wasn’t injured.

Investigators found Rewerts and the vehicle, which is equipped with the On-Star tracking device, near the Flying J truck stop at Interstate 275 and State Road 52 in Pasco County.

He was arrested by the Florida Highway Patrol and the Pasco County Sheriff’s Office.
