A Plant City man was charged Tuesday in the fatal hit-and-run of an 80-year-old pedestrian in Dover.

Deputies say numerous tips led to the arrest of Ryan Scott Pottinger, 30.

On Monday around 2:30 p.m., deputies say Santiago Sanchez-Lopez was walking east across Sydney Dover Road when he was struck by Pottinger, who was driving a Ford Ranger pickup truck southbound.

Deputies say Pottinger, who was driving about 50 mph, struck Sanchez-Lopez in the middle of the roadway.

Sanchez-Lopez was pronounced dead at the scene, deputies say.

Pottinger, who deputies say is a habitual traffic offender, was arrested at his home and charged with leaving the scene of a crash and driving with a suspended license.
