A 75-year-old woman is in intensive care after her grandson attacked her Sunday afternoon with a machete, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office says.

The attack came after Barbara Harvey and her grandson, 34-year-old Anthony Griffith, got into a “physical dispute’’ at about 4:30 p.m., investigators say. After the dispute, Griffith armed himself with a machete and cut his grandmother’s face and upper body, according to the sheriff’s office.

Griffith, of 7608 Loghouse Road in Plant City, called 911 and explained what he had done. He was arrested without incident.

Harvey was taken to Florida Hospital, then transferred to Tampa General Hospital, where she was in intensive care Sunday evening.

Griffith was charged with attempted murder and aggravated battery with a deadly weapon on a person older than 65.
