Pinellas Park police seek burglary suspect

Pinellas Park police are seeking a man they say assaulted a woman after breaking into her home.

Police said Richard Butts, 27, kicked in the side door Friday to a home in the 3900 block of 78th Avenue North. Once inside, he grabbed the 25-year-old female victim by the throat and threw her to the ground. He then picked up a ceramic plate, broke it on the floor and held a sharp fragment to her throat while threatening to kill her.

The victim struggled, and Butts punched her in the face and cut her neck with the shard, police said.

The victim was able to break free an phone police while Butts fled, police said.

Butts will be facing charges of aggravated battery with a deadly weapon, armed burglary and violation of an injunction for protection.
