A man tried to rob a woman of her purse Wednesday afternoon after she withdrew money from an ATM, the Pinellas Park Police Department said.
Police are now trying to locate the suspects who tried to rob the woman at 9121 U.S. Highway 19 N., Pinellas Park. The two men are wanted for attempted strong armed robbery, police said.
The woman was inside a convenience store just after 4 p.m. withdrawing money. When she exited the store to walk home, she saw two men following her, police said. The men had been in the store while she was there.
One asked her if he could use her phone. She replied she didn’t have one. They then asked if she had money. One said they saw her withdrawing money from the convenience store ATM.
The woman continued to walk to get away from the men.
But one suspect got in front of her. The other suspect ran away in the direction of a motel nearby, police said.
The suspect who confronted her grabbed her purse by the strap. He then told her he had a knife and would use it.
The woman grabbed her purse with both hands and started yelling, “Help!”.
The man released the purse and also ran toward the nearby motel.
The man who attempted to rob the woman appears to be about 5-foot-8 and was last seen wearing a black shirt and green shorts. He has short black hair, bad teeth and a neck tattoo, police said.
The other suspect is 5-foot-10 and thin. He has dark short hair.
