Pedestrian killed in New Year’s Eve crash on U.S. 41 identified

The Florida Highway Patrol has identified a pedestrian who was killed when he was struck by a vehicle on New Year’s Eve on U.S. 41.

Jose Perez Bermudez, 51, was attempting to cross the highway at St. Paul Street at 7:55 p.m. Tuesday when he walked into the path of a 2011 Buick Lacrosse driven by Patrice Alecia Pascoe, 37, of Gibsonton, FHP said.

Bermudez was struck by the car and died at the scene, troopers said. Pascoe was not injured.

Charges are pending, FHP said. A report said alcohol tests are pending on Bermudez, and Pascoe was not under the influence of alcohol.
