Pedestrian killed crossing roadway in Palm River

A 51-year-old Tampa man died on New Year’s Eve when he was struck by a vehicle as he tried to cross U.S. Highway 41 in Palm River, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The crash occurred just before 8 p.m. at U.S. Highway 41 and St. Paul Street, FHP said. The name of the victim hasn’t been released pending contact with his family.

A 2011 Buick Lacrosse driven by Patrice Alecia Pascoe was heading south on U.S. Highway 41 in the outside lane. As she approached St. Paul Street, a man walking across U.S. 41 east to west entered the path of the vehicle, FHP said.

The man died at the scene.

Pascoe, 37, of Gibsonton, wasn’t injured. She was not under the influence of alcohol, FHP said.

The man may have been under the influence of alcohol, but investigators are waiting on test results, FHP said.

The case remains under investigation. Charges are pending, FHP said.
