A 49-year-old New Jersey man died after being struck Thursday afternoon by a vehicle along a Mango road, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

The victim, 49-year-old Todd G. Janczak of Hillsboro, N.J., walked into the path of a Chevy Silverado and was struck by the vehicle. Janczak died at the scene of the 4 p.m. crash at Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard and North Lakewood Drive, FHP said.

The driver of the Silverado, Robert Vargas of Tampa, was heading east on King in the inside lane.

Janczak was walking on the north side of King and was attempting to walk across King from north to south. But he walked into the path of the vehicle, FHP said.

Vargas, 46, won’t be charged, FHP said. Alcohol wasn’t a factor in the crash. Vargas and his passenger, who were both wearing seat belts, weren’t injured in the crash, FHP said.

The eastbound lanes of King at North Lakewood were closed to traffic for more than two hours, FHP said.
