One man was stabbed to death and another was hospitalized with self-inflicted stab wounds Friday after a confrontation involving a divorced couple and the ex-wife’s boyfriend, Pasco County deputies said.

The man who died was identified as Alex Iliff, 33.

“This is the horrible side to domestic violence,” Sheriff Chris Nocco said during a news conference.

Witnesses told deputies that Erick Von Reinhart, 42, of Tampa, went to 24941 Oakhaven Court in Lutz late Thursday to confront his ex-wife, Amy Reinhart, and Iliff, her boyfriend.

The Reinharts were divorced June 6, according to Pasco court records. Erick Reinhart had moved out of the home they once shared and into an apartment in Hillsborough County, the Pasco sheriff’s office said.

There was no sign of forced entry, deputies said. Once inside, Erick Reinhart stabbed Iliff to death with a large knife he brought with him, investigators said. An autopsy will be performed on Iliff to determine the exact cause of death, the sheriff’s office reported.

Amy Reinhart’s sister, who was in another room in the house, called 911 about 11:45 p.m. When deputies arrived, they found the body of the boyfriend inside the home.

In a bathroom, Erick Reinhart was found on the floor bleeding heavily from self-inflicted stab wounds to his neck and abdomen, the sheriff’s office said. He was flown to a local hospital; his condition was not available. He has been charged with second-degree murder, the sheriff’s office reported.

Reinhart left his children, ages 5 and 6, with whom he has in common with his ex-wife, alone inside his apartment while he went to the Lutz home, investigators said.

The knife used in the stabbing was recovered at the scene, deputies said.

Amy Reinhart, her sister and the children were not injured, deputies said.
