— A Pasco County Sheriff’s Office deputy was involved in a collision Tuesday afternoon with a minivan carrying children as she headed to investigate a residential burglary, the sheriff’s office said.

Deputy Cindy Guerrero-Gonzalez, 27, of New Port Richey, suffered minor injuries when she collided into a van. A 5-year-old boy in the van was transported by emergency helicopter to St. Joseph’s Hospital with serious injuries. He was listed in stable condition, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

Guerrero-Gonzalez had a minor injury and was transported to Florida Hospital in Wesley Chapel, FHP said. FHP headed the crash investigation.

Just after 4 p.m., Guerrero-Gonzalez was heading east on State Road 54. She was going to investigate a residential burglary and was driving with her emergency lights and siren on, FHP said.

Carolann Rose Ruppe, 44, of Land O’Lakes, was driving a 2007 Honda minivan heading north on Oak Grove Boulevard, FHP said. She had a green light and entered the intersection in an attempt to make a left turn onto State Road 54.

But when Ruppe entered the intersection, Guerrero-Gonzalez’s patrol car struck the left rear of the minivan, FHP said.

Ruppe was traveling with four children -- ages 2, 5, 7 and 9.
