One shot, wounded at Eastern Florida State College

PALM BAY — Official say a man was shot and critically wounded at the Palm Bay campus of Eastern Florida State College.

Palm Bay police report that two men were beating up on another man Thursday afternoon. The man being attacked retreated to his vehicle, where he grabbed a gun and shot one of his attackers in the chest.

Officials say the man with the gunshot wound and the shooter were both hospitalized. Florida Today reports that the third man was being questioned by police.

None of their names were immediately released.

The campus was placed on lockdown, which was later lifted.

Classes at the campus were canceled for the day.

Eastern Florida State College was previously known as Brevard Community College, which added four-year degree programs in 2013.
