One killed in multi-vehicle crash on I-75 near MLK

One person died in a car fire after a multi-vehicle crash on Interstate 75 on Tuesday night, according to Hillsborough County Fire Rescue.

The crash involved five to six vehicles, including a semi truck, that were heading southbound on I-75 just south of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard, a fire rescue spokesman said.

Firefighters responded to the scene and found one car on fire. Firefighters put the fire out in a few minutes and found one person dead in the vehicle.

The victim’s name wasn’t released.

Two people in other vehicles involved in the crash were treated at the scene and taken to a local hospital. They were listed in fair condition, a fire rescue spokesman said.

The cause of the crash wasn’t released.

The case remains under investigation.

I-75 southbound just south of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Boulevard is closed at this time while officials investigate the crash and fatality, fire officials said.
