One arrested, one sought in Winter Haven burglary

Published:

A man who was just released from prison last month was arrested after attempting to burglarize a business early today, Winter Haven police said.

Police received an alarm from Midas Jewelry, 1415 3rd St., SW, after movement was detected inside the business. When officers arrived, they saw a black male with long dreads on the roof of the business.

The subject jumped from the roof and officers set off in pursuit, but lost track of him, police said.

A K-9 unit arrived and followed a trail from Midas Jewelry toward Haven Pallet, 347 Ave. O. SW, where they found a broken window and blood beneath it. The windo was too small for a person to fit through, so the K-9 continued pursuit.

The dog, Ares, located Akeem Lovett, 24, Orlando, in a stack of pallets. Lovett came out and was taken into custody.

Lovett had a fresh injury to his hand, police said.

Lovett was booked into the Polk County Jail on charges of armed burglary, grand theft, burglary and resisting without violence.

Officers are seeking a second suspect who was seen on the roof. That suspect also had long dreads.

The stolen property was found inside of a bag that the suspects dropped when police arrived.

Anyone with information on this case can call Heartland Crime Stoppers at 1-800-226-TIPS.
