A Jamaican stowaway with 3.7 pounds of marijuana was arrested late Sunday on an inbound cargo ship at the Port of Tampa, authorities said.

According to federal and local investigators, 23-year-old Duwayne C. Hines boarded the maritime cargo vessel Dinkeldiep while in a Jamaican port without permission.

The ship’s crew notified authorities after they found Hines, a Jamaican national, hiding while at sea, authorities said.

U.S. Customs and Border Protection officials were waiting at the docks when the ship arrived at 2001 Maritime Blvd., Berth 245, at the Port of Tampa.

Hillsborough County sheriff’s deputies assisting federal agents charged Hines with felony possession of marijuana, and a immigration hold was issued by customs officials, the sheriff’s office said.

Hines was being held at the Hillsborough County Jail.
