A Manatee County deputy was injured Monday after being shot by the suspect in a bank robbery.

After a shootout with deputies, the suspect was found dead in his vehicle, the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office said.

The sheriff’s office did not release the suspect’s name.

No cause of death was given, but officials said it was likely a gunshot wound.

Deputies responded about 11:25 a.m. to the robbery at Florida Bank, 3704 84th Ave. Circle E., Parrish.

Several minutes later, a shielded deputy approached the suspect’s vehicle at the 5100 block of 33rd Street East, near State Road 70, the sheriff’s office said. That’s when the deputy was shot.

The deputy’s injuries were not believed to be life-threatening, the sheriff’s office said.
