A 21-year-old Oviedo man was killed and three other people injured in a crash Monday on Interstate 4 in Polk County, the Florida Highway Patrol said.
About 1:15 p.m., a 2003 Nissan Sentra driven by Jacob B. Johnson, 19, Oviedo, was westbound on I-4 near State Road 559 when he lost control of the vehicle, which ran into a median guardrail. The Nissan then spun across the interstate, went up the embankment on the shoulder, went airborne and rammed into the concrete overpass.
Donald R. Johnson died at the scene. Jacob Johnson and two other passengers, Nicholas Salomone, 20, Lake Marion, and Hanna Schagrin, 20, of Orlando were taken to Lakeland Regional Medical Center. Johnson is in critical condition; Salomone and Schagrin are in serious condition.
Charges are pending, troopers said, but alcohol does not appear to be a factor.
