Man in Tampa arrested in N.J. textbook scam

Published:

A former textbook salesman for a New Jersey company was arrested in Tampa on Thursday, accused of stealing and reselling nearly $3 million worth of his former employer's textbooks, federal officials said.

Christopher Brock, 44, faces a federal charge of wire fraud.

U.S. Attorney Paul Fishman in New Jersey said Brock engaged in an elaborate scheme when he was employed as a sales supervisor in Oklahoma for Hoboken, N.J.-based John Wiley & Sons.

Hillsborough County jail records list Brock's address as 16287 Enclave Village Drive, Tampa.

Fishman said Brock diverted more than 16,000 free samples meant for college professors to himself and then resold them. Authorities say the money was spent on personal items, including diving equipment and high-end furnishings.
