Deputies: Fatal Gibsonton shooting appears drug-related

A man was fatally shot as he answered the door of a Gibsonton residence late Wednesday, Hillsborough County sheriff’s deputies said.

The shooting apparently was drug-related and not random, deputies said.

Deputies responded to a 911 call about 11:20 p.m. and found Andrew Edie, 38, shot once in the upper body at 11201 Inglewood Drive.

According a woman who reported she was at the residence at the time of the shooting, at least one person knocked on the front door, deputies said. When Edie answered the door, he was shot once and died at the scene.

The sheriff’s office has not released the relationship between Edie and the woman.

Homicide detectives executed a search warrant for the home and crime scene technicians were processing the scene Thursday afternoon. Detectives are also interviewing the woman. There have been previous calls from the home to the law enforcement, but detectives will not release them until determining if there are any connections to the shooting, the sheriff’s office said. Wednesday’s 911 call was also being held pending a review by detectives.
