Man attempts to lure child with Teddy bear, Bradenton police say

Published:

Bradenton authorities are investigating an incident in which they say a man attempted to lure a child to his car with a stuffed animal Friday night.

About 7 p.m. in the 1800 block of 23rd Avenue West, a young girl playing near her home was approached by an older man she did not know, Bradenton police said.

The man, described as a white, balding male between the age of 55 and 65 and driving a gray Mercury Grand Marquis, held out a Teddy bear as he spoke to the girl.

One of the girl’s parents saw the incident and approached the car. That prompted the man, who did not have facial hair, to drive off, according to police.

Anyone with information should call the Bradenton Police Department at (941) 932-9300 or Detective K.B. Magown at (941) 932-9309. To remain anonymous, call Crime Stoppers at 1-866-634-8477 (TIPS) or send an anonymous tip through at www.manateecrimestoppers.com. Those who supply tips via Crime Stoppers are eligible for a cash reward of up to $1,000.
