PLANT CITY A man was found dead with upper-body trauma Monday morning in the front yard of a Plant City home, police said.

Plant City police said officers responded at 7:28 a.m. to 914 W. Warren St. and found 67-year-old Edward Henry Lewis unresponsive next to his vehicle with upper body trauma. Plant City Fire Rescue also responded and pronounced Lewis dead at 7:38 a.m.

Detectives are investigating Lewis’ death as a homicide. The police department received calls about 3:30 a.m. about shots fired in the area near the Lewis home, but investigators are not sure if the reported gunshots were related to the death, police Sgt. Tray Towles said. Investigators are unsure of a motive, he said.

His car door was open when officers arrived, but it’s not known if he was arriving at home or about to leave when he was killed, Towles said.

No one has been arrested but detectives are pursuing several leads, he said.
