A confrontation over comments made to a female acquaintance Monday landed the female’s boyfriend in jail and a Wimauma man in a hospital “severely injured,” deputies said.

Erin Robinson, 19, was arrested on charges of attempted murder and tampering with a witness after the beating of Raul Ortiz, 58, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said.

According to deputies, Ortiz and Robinson’s girlfriend were at a store, and Ortiz was looking down her blouse and making innappropriate sexual comments to her. They knew each other because Ortiz previously dated Robinson’s father’s girlfriend, deputies said.

She notified Robinson and other family members of the incident.

Later Monday, Robinson, his girlfriend and two unidentified people went to Ortiz’s home, at 309 12th St., to confront Ortiz about his behavior at the store, deputies said.

A verbal dispute became physical, and Robinson punched Ortiz in the face three times, the sheriff’s office said. Ortiz fell to the ground, and Robinson grabbed the man’s head and struck it multiple times against concrete landscaping rocks, the sheriff’s office said.

Ortiz was transported to South Bay Hospital in Sun City Center and later moved to Blake Hospital in Bradenton.

Robinson, of 5518 Hillsborough St., Wimauma, was later taken into custody by deputies and booked into the Hillsborough County Jail. He was being held without bail, according to jail records.
