One person suffered life-threatening injuries when a car crashed into the back of a disabled vehicle on Interstate 4 on Thursday night, Tampa Fire Rescue reported.
About 8:48 p.m., a car with two occupants was on the left shoulder of eastbound I-4 at 22nd Street with a flat tire, according to fire officials, when a sedan slammed into the back of the disabled car.
The crash started a fire, and one of the occupants in the disabled car suffered serious injuries. The other occupant was able to escape unharmed.
Firefighters arrived and extinguished the blaze. They then extricated the occupant of the rear car, who was trapped and had life-threatening injuries, fire officials said.
The injured were taken to Tampa General Hospital.
