A Hernando County detention deputy is accused of burning a 3-year-old boy with a hairdryer as a form of punishment.

Cody Marrone was arrested Friday after deputies were called to Spring Hill Regional Hospital regarding a boy being treated for severe burns on several parts of his body.

Marrone initially said the boy caused the injuries to himself, but after he was read his Miranda rights he admitted using the hairdryer to burn the boy for not letting him sleep, the Hernando County Sheriff’s Office said.

It is still unclear what Marrone’s relationship is to the boy.

Marrone was arrested and charged with aggravated child abuse and child neglect.
