A former teacher at a Polk County parochial school was arrested Wednesday, accused by police of having sex with a minor.

Charles E. Lewis, who had taught physical education at Landmark Christian School in Haines City, faces six counts of unlawful sexual activity with a minor, police said.

An investigation by Haines City police found that Lewis had sexual relations with a minor “numerous times”

from March 2011 to August 2012. The investigation began after the minor told authorities, police said.

Lewis admitted in an interview with investigators that he had “a sexual relationship with the victim,” police said in a news release.

Additional charges may be forthcoming, police said.

Lewis, of Haines City, was being held at the Polk County Jail without bail.

Landmark Christian, which is associated with Landmark Baptist Church, was founded in 1972 and provides instruction in kindergarten through 12th grade.
