Two former Manatee County deputies are accused of possessing anabolic steroids, the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office said today.
Tom Frank, 45, and Christopher Tucker, 39, were arrested on warrants this afternoon. Frank was a sergeant in the Patrol Division, while Tucker was a deputy in the Child Protective Investigation Division. They both recently resigned from the Sheriff’s Office. Frank was hired in 1995, and Tucker joined the department in 1997.
A third former deputy remains under criminal investigation, and a fourth deputy, who is on administrative leave, is under internal investigation.
According to an arrest warrant, Frank contacted a confidential informant on July 26 seeking to purchase a vial of testosterone. During a meeting arranged and observed by detectives, Frank purchased a vial of steroids for $80, documents say.
A second warrant said Tucker contacted a confidential informant on Aug. 1 seeking liquid steroids. During an arranged meeting in a supermarket parking lot observed by detectives, Tucker purchased five vials of steroids for $300, documents said.
The investigation is being conducted by the U.S. Attorney’s Office, the Drug Enforcement Administration and the Florida Department of Law Enforcement.
