TALLAHASSEE -

Email is “e-mail” as far as the Florida Supreme Court is concerned.

The court on Thursday approved a new rule requiring parties to send legal documents to each other through email.

But it denied a recommendation to use the word “email” and is sticking with “e-mail.”

Its ruling cited the Gregg Reference Manual for business writing and said the hyphenated form of the word “is the one most commonly used.”

The Associated Press Stylebook says “email” is “acceptable in all references for electronic mail” although it too used “e-mail” until 2011.
