A Florida Highway Patrol officer and a tow-truck driver was killed while working at an accident scene on Interstate 75 south of Ocala on Saturday, the patrol said.
The trooper arrived on scene of a two-car crash at mile marker 341 about 1:40 p.m., FHP said. About 2 p.m., as the trooper was talking with a tow truck driver, a multi-vehicle crash happened in the southbound lanes in the same area, and a pickup truck went onto the east shoulder and struck the trooper, his patrol car, the tow truck driver and another pedestrian, FHP said.
The trooper and the tow truck driver were pronounced dead on scene. The pedestrian was transported in critical condition to Ocala Regional Hospital.
