Feds arrest St. Pete man on child porn charges

Published:

A St. Petersburg man was arrested Wednesday after federal investigators said they found hundreds of child pornography images on his laptop computer.

Donald E. Gallagher Jr., 51, of 9200 San Martin Blvd. N.E., faces federal charges of distribution and possession of child pornography.

According to a complaint, Gallagher used an online peer-to-peer file sharing program to download and share numerous images and videos of minors - some pre-pubescent - engaging in explicit sexual activity, according to the U.S. Attorney's Office.

Based upon the investigation into the origin of the images, the FBI obtained and executed a search warrant at a residence in St. Petersburg. During the search Wednesday, agents located and seized a laptop belonging to Gallagher, the U.S. Attorney's Office said. A preliminary examination of the computer revealed hundreds of images of child pornography, investigators said.

Gallagher was taken to the Pinellas County Jail for holding, according to the jail website.

If convicted, Gallagher could get a five- to 20-year prison sentence on the distribution charge and a maximum of 10 years on the possession charge, the U.S. Attorney's Office said.
