A Facebook photo of a Port Charlotte man pointing a gun at a cat is being investigated as a possible case of animal cruelty, Animal Control officials said.

Thomas Mcguinness, the man in the photo, later posted: “Don’t know why everybody so mad about a cat we only shot it twice.”

The photo was later taken down.

On Thursday, Mcguinness posted photos on his Facebook page of what appear to be the cat alive and wrote: “I would never hurt a little cat it was just a picture it just looks bad” and “it was stupid to post that picture.”

The photo was reported to the Charlotte County Sheriff’s Office and Animal Control, the television station reported. Animal Control also found pictures on Facebook of Mcguinness pointing a gun at a dog and himself, according to WBBH-TV.

NBC-2 in Fort Myers reports officials have been in touch with Mcguinness and he is cooperating with their investigation.

The station quotes Charlotte County Animal Control Division Manager Lt. Brian Jones as saying Mcguinness can’t be charged with animal cruelty for the photos if the animals are unharmed.
