Event let Pinellas people with warrants resolve cases without arrest

Dozens of people took advantage of an event that allowed people with outstanding misdemeanor warrants to surrender without being arrested Saturday, the Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office said.

During Operation Safe Surrender, those with outstanding misdemeanor warrants could go to the Suncoast Safety Council, 455 31st St. N., St. Petersburg, and make arrangements with a judge to resolve their cases.

Circuit Court Judge H. Andringa mitigated 67 warrants for 57 defendants, the sheriff’s office said. The Clerk of the Court collected $2,315 in fines and fees, and made arrangements with five defendants to make payments.

Other agencies taking part in the event included the State Attorney’s Office, Public Defender’s Office and Sixth Judicial Circuit judges.
