80-year-old man killed by hit-and-run driver on Sydney Dover Road

An 80-year-old man was struck and killed by a hit-and-run driver this afternoon as he walked across Sydney Dover Road. Hillsborough County investigators are looking for the vehicle, an older model brown Ford Ranger.

About 2:30 p.m., Santiago Sanchez-Lopez, of 2207 Sydney Dover Road, Dover, was walking east across Sydney Dover Road when a Ford Ranger, traveling southbound on the same road at about 50 mph, struck him in the center of the road, the sheriff’s office said.

Sanchez-Lopez was pronounced deceased at the scene.

The suspect is a man, 25 to 28 years of age, with light brown or blond, shoulder-length hair and a mustache, the sheriff’s office said. He last seen wearing gold or yellow reflective glasses.

The vehicle is a 1982 to ‘85, two-tone brown, Ford Ranger, according to the sheriff’s office. The fender is coffee brown and the rest of the truck is light brown, and there will be damage to the front, right of vehicle. The truck will have a brown and red patch on the left side of the truck.
