Drunk man passes out in stranger’s Brooksville home, deputies say

BROOKSVILLE – A 25-year-old man was arrested Friday on charges of marijuana possession and trespassing after breaking into and passing out in another person’s house while drunk, deputies said.

A woman found James William Kellar, of Truby Road, sleeping in a blue sleeping bag on her laundry room floor in her house on Chatfield Drive, Hernando deputies say.

The woman, who did not know Kellar, did not give him permission to sleep in the room, according to an arrest report.

The side door leading to the laundry room was not secured. When the woman went into the laundry room to do a load of laundry she discovered Keller, deputies said.

“(Kellar) stated he was at the Rebar drinking last night and was very intoxicated,” a responding deputy noted in the report. “(Kellar) stated he went to walk home and got lost. (He) stated he found himself along this residence and the side screen door was not locked so he entered into the room and went to sleep.”

Responding deputies search Kellar and found a bag of marijuana in his pocket, according to the arrest report.

Kellar was charged with marijuana possession less than 20 grams and trespassing in a structure, and was held at Hernando County Jail on $1,500 bond, according to the report.

Jail records do not show Kellar being arrested in Hernando County in the past.
