A dog who was severely burned is showing signs of recovery, according to the medical staff treating her at BluePearl Veterinary Partners.

Hope, the 1-year-old female, mixed-breed dog, was set on fire March by her owner Larry Wallace, 66, of Arcadia, officials say. Wallace was charged Monday with arson and cruelty to animals.

Tammy Miller Michau, a veterinary ophthalmologist, said today that Hope’s eyes have made significant improvements since last week and are in the best shape she has seen them.

“As the eye continues with the healing process, her eye is attempting to grow blood vessels to try to heal the center of her cornea where the most damage was done,” Michau said in a news release from BluePearl.

Hope is still expected to recover and retain her sight in both eyes.

Donations for Hope’s care can be made to the Hardee Animal Rescue Team via their website at hardeeanimalrescueteam.weebly.com
