TAMPA A Tampa man is facing second-degree murder charges after an argument turned deadly early today, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said.
About 5:22 a.m., a neighbor called the sheriff's office stating that someone was banging on the door yelling for police. When deputies arrived, they said they found Ivan Echevarria, 50, 2701 Waters Ave. No. 806, covered in blood.
Deputies said Echevarria led them to the body of Luis Rojas, 79, 1923 S. 66th St., which was lying in the carport of Rojas’ home.
Echevarria said he, Rojas and another person were drinking at Rojas’ home Friday night, and around 1:30 a.m., Echevarria and Rojas got into a verbal argument that turned physical, detectives sad.
Shortly thereafter Echevarria said he passed out, and when he woke up he found Rojas’ body, so he ran to a neighbor's house yelling for help, detectives said.
Echevarria has been cooperating with detectives and was taken into custody, deputies said
