Deputies: Woman douses man with lighter fluid in Pinellas Park

Pinellas County Sheriff’s Office deputies are searching for a woman who they say poured lighter fluid on a man and set an apartment on fire this afternoon.

Kamekia Russell hasn’t been located after the incident, the sheriff’s office said.

Russell, 36, met her ex-boyfriend, Oscar Mitchell, 36, at a convenience store near the apartments where his mother lives, the Lakeside Terrace Apartments, 4200 62nd Ave. N., in Pinellas Park, the sheriff’s office said.

Russell demanded that Mitchell pay back money he had borrowed a while back, the sheriff’s office said.

When Mitchell left the convenience store, Russell followed him back to his mother’s apartment. When he entered his mother’s second-floor apartment, she also went inside, the sheriff’s office said.

She sprayed him with lighter fluid, and he ran out, deputies said. She then set a curtain on fire and a sofa cushion also caught on fire, the sheriff’s office said.

Russell then left the apartment. Mitchell returned to the apartment and extinguished the small fire, the sheriff’s office said.

The case remains under investigation.
