A Tampa man faces several charges after deputies say he beat his pregnant ex-girlfriend in his car and fled to avoid arrest.

According to deputies, 31-year-old Curtis Eugene Anderson Jr. forced the victim — who is six weeks pregnant — into his Cadillac on June 5 around 2:30 a.m. and drove her around for about 30 minutes while striking her multiple times in the face and head.

Anderson then drove to her apartment and held her there until the next morning, continuing to strike her, deputies say.

After releasing her, the woman was transported to Tampa General Hospital and warrants were issued for Anderson’s arrest, deputies say.

When deputies located Anderson on Wednesday afternoon and attempted to arrest him, Anderson fled in his car through a yeard and nearly struck a deputy.

After locating him nearby, deputies say Anderson ran into the woods and then into an occupied residence, where he was arrested without further incident.

Anderson faces charges including aggravated battery, false imprisonment, kidnapping, aggravated battery on a law enforcement officer. He is being held without bond at the Hillsborough County Jail.
