A shoplifting suspect turned himself in today after seeing news coverage of him leaving the store, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said.

According to deputies, about 8 a.m. Oct. 10, Oscar Lee Lawrence, 21, of Seffner entered Wal-Mart, 1208 Brandon Blvd., Valrico, with a female accomplice. While she acted as a lookout, he used scissors to pry open a display case containing laptop computers.

Lawrence removed a HP laptop from the case, and the two left the store without paying for the computer, deputies said.

After seeing surveillance images of himself leaving the store, however, Lawrence surrendered at the Orient Road Jail this afternoon. He also brought the stolen laptop to the jail and turned it over to detectives, deputies said.

Lawrence has been charged with grand theft. The female suspect has not been charged pending further investigation.
