Deputies seek suspect who tried to rob Riverview bank

Published:

Hillsborough County sheriff’s deputies are looking for a man they say tried to rob the Bank of America branch at 9810 Highway 301 S. in Riverview.

The man entered the bank shortly before 1 p.m. and showed a hand-written note to a teller, before putting the note back in his pocket, police said.

The teller slowly walked away and locked herself in the vault area, leaving the man briefly standing at the counter before he left the bank and ran southeast through the parking lot, police said.

He’s described as a white man with salt and pepper facial hair, dark brown eyes, and standing approximately 5-foot-6 to 5-foot-7. He was wearing a camouflage baseball cap with the letters “UCF” on the front, a burgundy long sleeve t-shirt, khaki cargo shorts, and black and white shoes. He also had scotch tape around all of his fingers, deputies said.

It is believed that the man is possibly homeless and living in the area, the sheriff’s office said.

Anyone with information should call the sheriff’s office at (813) 247-8200, or Crime Stoppers at 1-800-873-TIPS (8477) to remain anonymous and be eligible for a cash reward.
