A Plant City man was arrested Friday, accused of fleeing a crash that put a pedestrian in the hospital with life-threatening injures, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said.
Dannie Ray Dixon, 23, of 3606 Ralston Road, was taken into custody around 11:30 p.m., after deputies say witnesses identified him as the driver of the 2001 Dodge Ram pickup truck that hit Stacey Parkerson as she walked along Sydney Road in Dover.
At around 11:20 a.m., Dixon and a passenger in the pickup truck were heading east on Sydney Road. The truck struck Parkenson, 40, who was walking east on the grass of the south shoulder, deputies said.
After the truck struck Parkenson, deputies say Dixon slowed down and then drove off, continuing east on Sydney Road.
Parkenson is in the hospital with life-threatening injuries.
The truck’s front grill was left at the scene of the crash on Sydney Road, deputies said. The truck, which is registered to Dixon’s father, was recovered at 3606 Ralston Road in Plant City. It was missing the grill and had damage to the right front side, deputies said.
Dixon was taken to a hospital for a mental evaluation under the Baker Act, after detectives learned he was suicidal during a post-arrest interview, the sheriff’s office said.
He was later booked into the Orient Road Jail where he was being held without bail.
