TAMPA — An elderly couple was found dead in their home Saturday after an apparent murder-suicide, Hillsborough County sheriff’s deputies said.

The 60-year-old son of Eloise P. Bailey, 87, and James G. Bailey, 88, discovered their bodies about 11:45 a.m. when he stopped by their home on Six Mile Creek Road east of Tampa, Hillsborough County sheriff’s spokesman Larry McKinnon said.

Authorities believe James Bailey killed his wife then shot himself, McKinnon said. The couple’s son told deputies his mother had been ill.

The Hillsborough County Medical Examiner’s Office will determine the official cause of death.
