Man charged with striking relative with SUV after fight

Family members got into an argument Friday afternoon, and one decided to crash into the other one with a sport utility vehicle, causing serious injury, the Hernando County Sheriff's Office said. Phillip Atkins, 28, was visiting relatives at 2079 Fentress Court in Spring Hill at around 5:30 p.m., the sheriff's office said, and during the visit he got into an argument with his relative, Randall Nelson 49. Atkins left the home, but then returned driving a 1997 Ford Expedition SUV and struck Nelson, the sheriff's office said. Nelson was transported to the local trauma center for treatment for life-threatening injuries, the sheriff's office said. Atkins was arrested and charged with aggravated battery with great bodily harm. His bond has been set at $100,000. Detectives are investigating the reason for the argument.
