Deputies: Bradenton burglary ends with gunfire, one shot

Published:

Gunfire were exchanged after three people entered a home Sunday night and one of the burglars was shot, Manatee County Sheriff Brad Steube said.

Jeremy Jones, 26, was identified as one of the intruders after he went to a local hospital with a non-life-threatening gunshot wound, Steube said.

The burglary took place about 9 p.m. at a home on the 4900 block of 24th Street West in Bradenton, deputies said.

The three intruders took a television, investigators said. As they were leaving, one of the people in the home grabbed a handgun and fired several shots, the sheriff said.

The intruders returned fire before fleeing, Steube said.

At this time, detectives do not believe this was a random incident.

No charges have been filed and an investigation continues.

Anyone with information was asked to call the Manatee County Sheriff’s Office at (941) 747-3011 or Crime Stoppers at 1-866-634-TIPS (8477).
