Deputies: Body found in Lutz pond may be missing man

The Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office said the body of a man found Friday in a Lutz pond may be a man who was reported missing this week.

The body was located about 2 p.m. in a pond along Calusa Trace Boulevard near Gulfwinds Drive and Bittern Avenue.

Deputies said from preliminary identification it appears that the body is that of Ryan David Brenneman, a 35-year-old man who was last seen on Sunday night.

However, the Hillsborough County Medical Examiner’s Office will be responsible for identifying the body, said Debbie Carter, a sheriff’s office spokeswoman.

It will also be the medical examiner’s office that will determine a cause of death, Carter said.

On Friday, sheriff’s investigators said it didn’t appear to be foul play, Carter said.

On Sunday night, Brenneman’s family contacted the sheriff’s office to report him missing.

Brenneman had told his father Sunday night that he was going for a jog. He left his home in a yellow two-door Fiat, according to the sheriff’s office.

Around 10:30 p.m., Brenneman’s father received a text message from his son where he said he would be home shortly, the sheriff’s office said.

He never returned home.

At about 11:30 p.m., Brenneman’s family found the his car abandoned on Crystal Lake Raod near Geraci Road in Lutz, the sheriff’s office said.
