A Brandon man who deputies say violently snatched a women’s purse before he was caught on video shopping with her credit card has been arrested, the Hillsborough County Sheriff’s Office reported.

Ja’Marcus Da’Sha Russ, 19, is charged with robbery and fraudulent use of a credit card after numerous tips through Crime Stoppers led deputies to his home at 403 Providence Road, the sheriff’s office said.

According to an arrest affidavit, Russ is accused of trying to take a purse from 62-year-old Barbara Orebaugh, of Valrico, as she walked through a parking lot toward the AMC movie theater at the Regency Shopping Center in Brandon.

When Orebaugh refused to let go of her purse, Russ pushed her to the ground and punched and kicked her in the body and face, leaving her with several broken bones, before taking the purse, the sheriff’s office said.

Within three hours of the robbery, Russ charged $865.48 in purchases to Orebaugh’s credit card at the Walmart at 11110 Causeway Blvd, the sheriff’s office said.

Russ also tried to make purchases at the Mobile station 1640 W. Brandon Boulevard for $46.29 and $4.70, and the Kmart at 1602 W. Brandon Blvd. for $1,998.05, but those transactions were declined, the sheriff’s office said.

The total value of the property taken from Orebaugh is valued at $3,010, the sheriff’s office said.

Russ was positively identified after he was captured on video surveillance at the stores, the sheriff’s office said.
