Crash near Florida, Fletcher Avenues kills pedestrian

A 64-year-old man is dead after being hit by a truck near North Florida and Fletcher avenues this afternoon, the Florida Highway Patrol said.

At 2:33 p.m., a 1999 Ford truck driven by Timothy Harvey Danenhower, 41, of San Antonio, Fla., was northbound on Florida Avenue south of Fletcher, FHP said. The truck towing a heavy trailer loaded with a tractor.

The pedestrian, whose name is being withheld pending notification of next of kin, began to walk across Florida and entered the truck’s path. The truck hit the pedestrian, who was pronounced deceased at the scene, FHP said.

Florida Avenue between 131st and Fletcher Avenue will be closed for the next several hours as the investigation is conducted, and drivers should take alternate routes, Hillsborough County sheriff’s deputies said

FHP will be conducting the investigation while Hillsborough deputies help with traffic control, according to the sheriff’s office.
